What is CA 27-29?
This is Cancer antigen 27-29,s the CA 27-29 blood test marker. an his antigen is a substance that stimulates your body’s immune system. Certain types of cancer cells send CA 27-29 antigen into the blood. These tests help give information about cancer that are called tumor markers.
Why do I need this test?
- To find out if cancer has spread before starting treatment.
- To find out how well treatment works.
- To find out whether your cancer has come back or spread after treatment.
This is a test that gives more data alongside other testing methods such as ultrasound or thermography.
Another test a provider may check for is another breast cancer tumor maker called 15-3.
What is the process of this test?
This test is done with a simple blood sample at either your primary care or a phlebotomist office. They will use a needle to draw blood from either your arm or hand to collect this sample.
What do my test Results mean?
Important to know about results is:
- Variations depending on age, gender, health history, etc.
- If tested positive that does not mean you have breast cancer OR it came back.
- Results can be higher than normal for other types of cancer. The results are measured in units per millimeter (U/mL).
If CA 27-29 is less than 38 U/mL, this may determine you do not have active breast cancer. If CA 27-29 is 38 U/mL or greater, you may have active breast cancer OR it came back/spread.
It could also mean that you have another condition, not breast cancer, that raises your CA 27-29.
What might affect the results?
